Last updated 24 September 2026

This policy covers Backgammon for iPhone and iPad, published by EU Studio. It says what the game stores, where, and who else is involved. The short version: your games are yours, EU Studio never receives them, and the only third party that sees anything is Google, which serves the ads in the free version.

What the game stores

  • Your settings, level, coins, the items you have unlocked, your statistics and your rating are stored on your device and in iCloud's key-value storage under your own Apple Account, so your iPhone and iPad show the same progress.
  • The record of games you have finished is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud database.
  • The game in progress is saved on the device only, so it is still there if the app is closed.
  • EU Studio has no server for any of this and cannot read it. Apple stores the iCloud copy under its own privacy policy.

Game Center

If you are signed in to Game Center, Backgammon posts three scores to its leaderboards — your wins, your rating against the computer, and your longest winning streak — and reports the achievements you earn. Games played between two people on one device are not posted. Your Game Center name, rankings and achievements are handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. EU Studio sees only what any other player sees and never sees your Apple Account.

Advertising

The free version shows ads. They come from Google AdMob.

  • Ads appear on the menu, statistics, lessons and shop screens, and sometimes after a finished game. Never over the board while you play. Video ads for coins play only when you ask for one.
  • Before any ad is requested, the game shows Google's consent form where the law requires it, and then iOS asks whether the game may track you.
  • If you decline either, you still see ads, just not personalised ones, and the game plays exactly the same.
  • Google may collect your device's advertising identifier (only if you allowed tracking), an approximate location derived from your IP address, information about your device, and how you interact with the ads. Google handles this under its own privacy policy, at policies.google.com/privacy.
  • The ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience.
  • EU Studio receives none of this data. We see only Google's aggregate reports — how many ads were shown, in which countries, and what they earned — never anything about you.
  • You can change your consent at any time under Ads and privacy in the game's menu, or in Settings. Tracking is allowed or refused in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, whenever you like.

Premium

Premium removes the ads and adds the Luxury board, gold dice and gold checkers. It is sold as a monthly or yearly subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Apple handles all of it through the App Store — payment, billing, renewals and refunds. We never see your card, your Apple Account or your billing address. The game only asks Apple which purchases are active on your account, so it can unlock what you paid for.

Reminders

If you turn on the daily reminder, it is scheduled on your device by iOS. There is no push server, and nothing about it leaves your device.

Crash reports and usage

If the game crashes, iOS may hand it a crash report through Apple's MetricKit. The report stays on your device; the game sends it nowhere. The game contains no analytics SDK and sends EU Studio no usage data. The only third-party SDK inside it is Google's, for the ads described above.

Children

Backgammon is a board game for a general audience and is not directed at children. The ads it shows are limited to content suitable for all ages.

Keeping and deleting your data

What the game stores is on your device and in your own iCloud, so you delete it by deleting the app and, for the iCloud copy, by removing Backgammon's data under your Apple Account's iCloud settings. We cannot delete it for you, because we cannot reach it. Google's advertising data is governed by Google, and you can reset your advertising identifier or refuse tracking in iOS Settings.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected and ask for it to be deleted. For Backgammon the answer is that we hold none, but write to us and we will answer. The controller is EU Studio, Denmark.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so on the news page rather than quietly editing this one. The studio-wide privacy policy at eustudio.org/privacy describes how EU Studio handles data across all its apps and this website.
