Shut the Box
ReleasedEveryone gets the same dice. Only the choices differ.
Roll, close tiles that add up to the throw, and try to shut the whole box. The computer plays your exact dice after you, a Friend Box sends them to someone else, and the Daily Dice give everyone the same set — so every comparison means something.

What's inside
Everything Shut the Box does, without the filler.
The computer gets your dice
COMPUTER on Easy, Medium or Hard plays after you, on the same throws in the same order. Its result stays hidden until your round is over.
Daily Dice
One set of dice a day, the same for everyone. One official attempt, and a streak for every day in a row.
Friend Box
Send a round on as a link or a short code, and your friend plays your throws in your order — blind, or with your finishing position as the target.
Solo, with the best move on request
Just you and the box. Ask for the best move whenever you want it — SOLO is the only mode that offers one.
Game quality, not just score
Every round is graded against an exact solver: how often you found the best move. A perfectly played game can still end on a high score.
Game analysis
After a round the game shows how many of your choices could have been better and what they cost against perfect play, measured on the dice you actually had — then replays it throw by throw.
Training Lab and Box Rating
With Premium, Training Lab sets your own costliest positions up again, with the answer. Box Rating is your long-run level, measured on decisions — neither luck, score nor how much you play moves it.
Made like a real box
Dice that tumble in 3D, a clatter when they land, a click for every tile. Tiles that cannot help are dimmed, so you never have to do the sums yourself.
13 languages
English, Danish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Portuguese, Polish, Finnish and Japanese. The game follows your phone's language, or the one you pick in Settings.
Why people use Shut the Box
The reasons that survive the second week.
Luck is taken out of the argument
Shut the Box is usually decided by the dice. Giving everyone the identical throws turns it into a game about decisions.
It can prove you played well
An exact solver knows the best move in every position, so the app can tell you that a bad score was still a good game.
The whole game is free
All four ways to play and the analysis after every round cost nothing, and there are no ads. Premium is for players who want to get better.
Frequently asked questions
The lower score wins. You close tiles that add up to each throw until a throw has no legal move, and whatever is left standing is your score. Close every tile and you have shut the box: a score of zero, the best possible round.
