Gas prices in Bulgaria
In Bulgaria the state-owned public supplier Bulgargaz sells gas to the distribution companies, and the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) approves its price every month. What households pay their local distribution company follows that price, with regulated network and supply charges on top.
Relatively few Bulgarian homes are connected to the gas grid; most heat with electricity, wood or district heating, so gas plays a smaller part in household budgets than in much of the EU.
Bulgaria long depended on Russian gas, but Gazprom halted deliveries in April 2022. Since then gas has come from Azerbaijan through the interconnector with Greece and as LNG through Greek and Turkish terminals. Bulgaria joined the euro in January 2026, so its gas prices are now in euros.

Gas prices in Bulgaria explained
A price approved every month
Each month Bulgargaz proposes a price based on its purchase costs and EWRC approves it. The distribution companies, such as Overgas and Citygas, add their own regulated charges, and 20% VAT applies to the household bill.
After Russian gas
Losing Russian supply in 2022 forced Bulgaria to diversify quickly. The interconnector with Greece opened in October 2022 and brings Azerbaijani gas, and Bulgaria booked LNG capacity in Greece and Turkey, so its monthly price now follows the European and world LNG markets more closely.
Reading the Bulgarian figures
The monthly price EWRC approves for Bulgargaz is a wholesale price for the distribution companies, not a household price, so it is not shown here. The page shows Eurostat's half-yearly household averages with all taxes; Eurostat gives them in euros, including the years before Bulgaria adopted the currency.
