Gas prices in Czechia
Czech households buy gas on a liberalised market with dozens of suppliers. The price of the gas itself is not regulated, but the Energy Regulatory Office (Energetický regulační úřad, ERÚ) sets the distribution, transmission and other regulated charges every year.
Gas is widely used in Czech homes for heating, hot water and cooking, especially in family houses connected to the distribution networks of GasNet, Pražská plynárenská Distribuce and EG.D.
Until 2022 most Czech gas came from Russia. Since then Czechia has imported mainly from Western Europe through Germany, including LNG landed at the Eemshaven terminal in the Netherlands, where the state leased capacity in 2022.

Gas prices in Czechia explained
What makes up the price
A Czech gas bill combines the supplier's price for the gas, usually quoted per MWh, and a fixed monthly payment with the regulated distribution and transmission charges set by ERÚ, a fee for the market operator OTE, and 21% VAT.
The measures of 2022 and 2023
To soften the crisis, the government waived VAT on gas and electricity for November and December 2022, paid households a one-off savings tariff, and for all of 2023 capped the household gas price and paid suppliers the difference. The cap expired at the end of 2023.
Reading the Czech figures
Eurostat publishes Czech household prices both in koruna and in euros; this page shows the koruna figure, the currency of Czech bills, and uses the euro figures only to compare with neighbouring countries in the same half-year.
